Trochoidal

When slotting, instead of reducing the feed rate, the cutter moves in a trochoidal movement at nominal speed.

The Trochoidal checkbox appears in the High Speed Machining branch of the NC Parameter Table.

Trochoidal: OFF

Trochoidal: ON

When Trochoidal is ON (selected), the following parameters are displayed:

Trochoidal Pitch / Step

Define the pitch/step of the trochoidal movement.

Trochoidal Pitch appears when Trochoidal is selected in the High Speed Machining branch.

Trochoidal Step appears when Trochoidal is selected as the Cutting Technique in the Tool Trajectory branch for 2.5 Axes > Profile Open Contour, Profile Closed Contour and the Slotting procedures.

Preferred Trochoidal Radius

Set the preferred radius of the trochoidal movement. If the Preferred Trochoidal Radius cannot be applied as it causes an interference with the part, the radius is adaptively reduced.

The default and min./max. Preferred Trochoidal Radius values are:
Default
= 0.3 * Tool Diameter
Min.
= 0.001
Max.
= 0.5 * Tool Diameter

In the examples below, trochoidal motions are used to machine the slot in a high-speed milling rough operation of a semi-open cavity.

Small Trochoidal Radius:
 - Shorter machining time
 - Higher tool-load

Large Trochoidal Radius:
 - Longer machining time
 - Lower tool-load

Note: When Trochoidal and Multi Z are both defined, Trochoidal has the priority. Multi Z is automatically activated whenever trochoidal does not satisfy the geometrical conditions.
